His undergraduate studies were at the University of Zimbabwe and he worked as a medical laboratory scientist for some time. Prior to that, he received a Master of Science degree with merit from Staffordshire University, UK. His PhD studies were aimed at developing a rotavirus reverse genetics system. He received a PhD in Biochemistry from the North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa. His research focuses on studying mechanisms of vector-borne flavivirus persistence and modeling host responses to infection.
